Full Version: Loading additional data

When loading additional data other than eflybook. i.e. books is better to load to the irex memory or should one purchase a compact flash card and store it on the card. My question concerns preformance of the eflybook being degraded with additional data in the irex memory.

There will be no performance problems by using internal storage. However, if you fill it to capacity, you will get file corruption message when doing OS updates (using the top right buttom). It uses that memory area to store the download and unpack it.

We ran into this today, once the user free'd up some memory, all was fine..

I suspect that is an awkward question for myairplane.com to respond to...

The JeppView and FlightDeck applications are Windows-based. The eFlyBook is not a Windows device. So, you can load those applications on the eFlyBook if you want to but they are not going to run.

Or, do you mean just the Jepp charts? The file format for Jepp charts is proprietary. Someone would have to license the format from Jepp, write a Linux/XScale application to view those charts on the iLiad, and then pay Jepp to get copies of the charts. Doesn't sound like a workable business model to me.

I don't know if the arrangement between ARINC and iRex Technologies is exclusive. Technically, it is feasible that Jepp would also partner with iRex to offer a Jepp Viewer for the iLiad. But, their price is going to 6 or 7 times that of myairplane.com's for the same coverage. If I was willing to spend that kind of money, I would have purchased a Tablet PC and run FlightDeck.

The partnership between myairplane.com and ARINC is providing NACO charts on a very usuable platform for very little money (for the charts, that is). Even with the purchase of the eFlyBook, I will be money ahead after one year. Plus, I have more coverage and I have an eReader device that I am using on a daily basis.

Dennis, let me know when I cross the line as a supportive customer huh.gif

I didn't realize the differences between the 2. thanks for pointing it out. We presently operate 2 tablet pc's in the jet now but the size doesn't make it work comfortably. That's why it would be great if the flybook would support Jeppview for the approach charts only. JimO
