I think that the software needs to come up with a consistent way of navigating without having to use the stylus. I see this as a safety of flight issue - no one wants to try and hunt down the stylus they just dropped when they were on an ILS approach.

Stuart,

Thanks for using the forum. At this time we are currently testing a beta release of the software that will allow for navigation using nothing more than the face buttons. This has been a highly requested feature and should be available in the next 2 weeks.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to post them here.

A tethered stylus would be a preferable alternative since some operations such as keying in on the keyboard will be hard to replicate using the firmware on the Iliad. It's a reading device, not a computer, but that's what makes the form factor and size to appealing for reading approach plates. But the stylus MUST be permanently available in the cockpit.

For identifiers, it should be possible to take the same approach as most GPS's for entering information. To enter a character at a time, use the UP/DOWN keys to scroll the value and the enter key to advance to the next entry. Hitting enter with no entry would then lookup the identifier and go to the procedures page. Since there is only one field and one page for the current form, it may even be feasible to use the flipper for entering the information -- thinking turbulence may make the UP/DOWN difficult to hit.

Remember, this is not a PC, it's a low powered Linux tablet. I think we may never see the GPS lookup capability but I like the suggestion all the same.
